On Saturday May 11th at 4 pm, the WaterWealth Project will host a community art 'flash-mob' to help make this election fun and to inspire increased voter turnout for May 14. The rally will happen near “5 corners” in downtown Chilliwack, at the Chilliwack Law Courts.
At the WaterWealth Project we are clear that protecting our fresh water is something that will benefit all of us who live and work in the Fraser Valley. Whether we are teachers, small business owners, farmers, students or snow-birds, we know that having clean and pure home waters ensures that we will always have a good home to live in, and to come back to. With this conviction, we have been working to “make water visible” this election and inspire voters to support candidates who are committed to protecting our fresh home waters.
But we also recognize that there are many other issues that inspire people to get engaged come election season. And no matter the issue that gets people going, no one can dispute that democracy thrives when more voters show up to the polls.
That is why we are looking to team up with other community associations, businesses, groups and individuals to take part in a public art rally on Saturday, May 11th. We’re encouraging people to bring art pieces, signs, and/or costumes that visually represent why voting on May 14th is important, and what issues you care about. Maybe it’s a photo of your grandchildren, or that fish costume hiding in the back of your closet. Maybe it’s a big sign reading “good local water = good local beer,” or an image of that university degree you’re working towards. Whatever your election issue is, come on out with some visual showing of why you are voting on May 14 and show the world why the Fraser Valley votes!
